First Impressions
After five days in India, I am very conscious of being “othered” and how my skin conveys privilege. I am so intrigued by everyone around me and often wish to smile or wave. I try and smile in a gentle and non-threatening way as I don’t want people to feel like I expect a smile back, or that I am some how entitled to it. Behind the Scenes
Arriving in India was unlike any other experience I have had in my lifetime. After a dizzying cab ride that saw us momentarily lost in the streets of New Delhi, we arrived at our accommodations and began to settle in. The days prior to our arrival in Dharamsala saw us travel from Delhi to Amritsar to spend time at the Golden Temple, from there we made the drive to Dharamsala. A Fine Balance
I am volunteering at the Gamru Village School in lower Dharamsala which is a school that is completely funded by donations and provides an education to over 170 students from the region.
